UltraViolet Water Sterilisers


Ultra Violet (UV) light treatment is the most effective and convenient method to remove bacteria from water. Other options include the use of ceramic filters, Iodine release filter cartridges, and chemical dosing of water tanks. These options all require regular maintenance and are not as economical or convenient to maintain as a UV system.

Many councils now require a UV system to be fitted in all new rural water applications for building code compliance.

UV treatment can range in size from small "under the kitchen sink" units which will sterilise up to 8 litres per minute, up to whole house supplies of between 24 to 100 litres per minute. They are an economical option with low maintenance compared to ceramic filters or chemical treatment of the water. They require a 240 volt power source to operate but use only between 14 & 40 watts depending on the size of the system.

The under sink units can either be plumbed to the standard cold water faucet or to a separate drinking faucet.

Because Giardia & Cryptosporidium cysts are not usually destroyed by UV light, and to maintain clear water flowing past the UV bulb, pre filtration of sediment down to one micron is required to be installed prior to the UV chamber.
